Electrical Safety (Solar Farms) Amendment Regulation 2019New laws commencing 13 May 2019 in Queensland Australia, will require mounting, locating, fixing and removal of solar panels at solar farms to only be undertaken by licensed electricians. This change is necessary to ensure the safety of workers and other people during the construction and operation of solar farms. The amendment regulation will also reduce the risk of electric shock, burns or fire, if there is a fault with the solar panels because of incorrect installation, earthing, or removal. The new laws commence on the same day as the Construction and Operation of Solar Farms Code of Practice 2019. The new Electrical safety (solar farms) amendment regulation 2019, applies to all solar farms (new and existing) with a total rated capacity of at least 100kW, operated by a person conducting a business or undertaking. This amendment will ensure consistency for new and existing solar farms, irrespective of the design or system used, and safety measures used. WHSQ Release New Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement PolicyFollowing the recommendations of the Best Practice Work Health and Safety Review in 2017, Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) have released a new Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement Policy. The major focus of this Policy is to ensure duty holders comply with WHSQ's approved Codes of Practice.
